Why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what’s on the other side?
Excellent question, Kermit!
When a beloved pet dies, we often talk about the rainbow bridge. We imagine that our sweet doggie or kitty or gosh for that matter Emu if that’s your pet, gets to cross the rainbow bridge and then they frolic in a field and wait for you.
And hay, that may be true cause rainbows are a hot topic for animals that I talk to on the other side; and this side too. I recently had the chance to chat to an amazing doggie named Grommit* who crossed over leaving his parents bereft, (And isn’t that the only way?) During the reading he mentioned rainbows as one of the signs that he gives his parents…his mom nodded, her eyes sparkling with tears.
*(I know, I know, his name is SO GOOD! And look at this FACE!! 😍)
She then offered that not so long ago those tears were in full flow cause it was his 11th birthday and they were missin’ him something fierce. As she thought of him that day, he managed to pull out a fantastic combo platter of a rainbow in the sky for one family member at the exact same moment a cloud formation that looked just like him - formed in front of the eyes of other family members.
Grommit! You are so fancy!
When I first connected to him, the thing he showed me was this incredibly gorgeous star-field; a wide swath of emerald green, swirling with other translucent greens and blues, imagine the northern lights but then pump it up with more sparkling special effects. These colors transmitted feelings of the most profound comfort; broadcasting the hue of the heart chakra. As if the great heart of the universe cracked open and oozed it’s gorgeous glittering green which was accompanied by a powerful deep hum; inviting the deepest love that squeezed my heart so hard my own tears brimmed over as I attempted to describe to his momma what I was seeing.
What’s so amazing That keeps us stargazing? And what are we hoping to see?
He was gently showing me how he lives there in the green now (and actually always did) with his mom, dad and the other loves - he said “Even that other dog that I lived with who I didn’t actually love that much” - which made me snort with laughter. He said with a shrug - “Eh, she was just ok”.
His mom confirmed that; his doggie sister was a shrug for him; she said “He tolerated her!” (again so funny to me) but I surmised that he felt that way because he wanted his people all to himself. Which is fair!
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me...
Grommit was a super busy guy. He showed me how he moved from room to room, protecting, checking, confirming - he really needed to make sure everyone and everything was Gooooooood. He was in charge! I suggested to his mom that he was a spreadsheet guy - that he was very interested in order and had a very big brain. I wondered if he was working on budgets or crunching data while they slept.
This one made her really happy; she said, “100% on the spreadsheets”. She said that they imagined that when they left the house he got out his readers and did the crossword puzzle.
He had other amazing evidence, showing me the way he was usually at the end of a leash - that was a cool visual for me, I looked back up the leash like I was seeing what he saw, his sweet parents! He then showed me that he did get to run on a beach and also showed me running in a field. When I shared this bit, his momma said this is a ‘gold nugget’ - amazing evidence. Due to his big desire to protect them, he wasn’t really allowed off the leash much, except for behind a family member's home in a field. And once at a deserted beach. She said watching him run was magnificent!
...all of us Under its spell We know that it’s probably magic
I don’t know about y’all, but I find the whole thing absolutely nuts. How did I know about fields and beaches and his meh feelings about his sister? What universes of information flow like green glitterbombs between us that we are not tracking and understanding? I mean if Grommit can summon rainbows and self portraiture in clouds, there is such a grand picture we humans are missing out on most days. And I wonder if he had to enlist higher-ups for the clouds, like maybe there’s a cloud committee that they appeal to? But gosh, when you’re such a handsome pup in charge with your spreadsheets and readers, I bet you can do anything.
Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices? I’ve heard them calling my name... Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.
**Note to add that in my last review before sending this I’m JUST realizing the Green connection with Kermit; I mean….?! Right? 🌈 🐸
Ohhhhh, Grommit! With your Excelness and cloud portraiture so fine! This was such a magical piece, Janey! I feel your excitement and reverence for your gift! You’re flowing, and dare I say, glowing, girl! 💚
Kay, first of all, the snippets of Rainbow Connection lyrics had me snotting all over my new patio furniture. They were perfect in the piece and where you put them in the piece. Wow.
I am now a forever Grommit fan with his readers and crosswords and spreadsheets. Dear god. Dear dog.
And this passage Janey, this passage: "What universes of information flow like green glitterbombs between us that we are not tracking and understanding? I mean if Grommit can summon rainbows and self portraiture in clouds, there is such a grand picture we humans are missing out on most days." The deep gong resonance of this in me is the biggest gift of the week. Month. Year.
I am so happy you are getting to chat with the critters this way - not only is it the most joyful thing ever but they have such vitally important things to show us. It's inspiring me to listen closer to the ones who are still (literally) underfoot.
Thank you Grommit, Kermie, Janey. (And yes, I caught the green / Kermie connection right away!)
Please keep doing this, exactly as you are. Much gratitude flowing to you from this little menagerie.
